The month of March plays host to a very important day in our country’s calendar. Overlooking the fact that 21 March is a public holiday, the day itself represents something so much more significant. Human Rights Day epitomises the right for every single one of us to be seen and heard, the right to have access to basic necessities, the right to live together harmoniously, the right for all citizens to be a part of a constitutional democracy and the right to retain individual human dignity. For many of us, our country also denotes the privileges of a rainbow nation and the equal responsibility for all citizens to treat and act accordingly. Remember, while it is your right to carry forth all that Human Rights Day represents, it’s also your responsibility not to infringe anyone else of theirs.
Happy Human Rights Day South Africa… we have come a long way.
